The Lost at Sea Memorial was erected in 2006 to pay tribute to all those who lost their lives at sea and were never found. The Memorial, located at Morse Park Landing, was established by the family of Johnny Brown, a 38-year old Murrells Inlet commercial fisherman who was lost at sea in 2005. All the people, whose names are etched on the monument, will be remembered at the ceremony.

Weekend golf

A great weekend of golf. Played The Dye Club on Saturday in very sunny skies but chilly and very windy. The course is in excellent shape and really should be on any golfers list of courses to play when they come to North Myrtle Beach. On Sunday I played Oyster Bay Golf. Don’t let the short yardage fool you. The course is in outstanding shape. The greens are a little slower than normal but they need to be because of the contours and break they have. You really need to be on top of your game because shot placement is very important. Oyster Bay also has a deal right now that with your tee time you get breakfast, lunch and two beers or soft drinks. Annual Canadian-American Days Festival

This festival was first started in 1961 as an event for Canadians visiting the Myrtle Beach area during their spring school break. It has grown into a major rite of spring celebration not only for visiting Canadians, but for all guests and locals in the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, area. This week long festival offers plenty of entertainment, tours and special events (many of which are free), a golf tournament, as well as discounts, giveaways and savings on area attractions and services. Marathon Weekend is Coming

Myrtle Beach hotelsIf you’re into fitness you’re going to want to know about the 15th Annual Myrtle Beach Marathon Weekend taking place the weekend of February 16-18, 2012. Whether you’re coming here for a vacation or you’re in the area for business, you’re welcome to join in any of the marathon weekend events happening close to our Myrtle Beach hotels.

It’s easy to register online for any of the events taking place on marathon weekend. As in the past there are other events and races taking place this same weekend. The BI-LO Marathon, Dasani Half Marathon, RBC Bank 5K Run/Walk and Ripley’s Family Fun Run are all going on this weekend with a post race party at the House of Blues on Saturday, Feb. 18 for adults 21 and up. Register early for big savings and remember to check in at the Spirit Airlines Runners Expo. The Expo will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, February 16 and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, February 17.

The BI-LO Myrtle Beach Marathon and Dasani half marathon will be held at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, February 18 and will begin at the intersection of 21st Avenue North and Grissom Parkway. The RBC Bank 5K will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, February 17 at Broadway at the Beach near Ripley’s Aquarium. The Ripley’s Family Fun Run will start at 5:30 p.m. Friday, February 17 at Broadway at the Beach near Ripley’s Aquarium.
