Beach Parking Expansion

In April of 2019, the city of North Myrtle Beach announced the start of an expansion project that will create approximately 200 additional public parking spaces in lots from 4th Avenue North to 18th Avenue North. The expansion will require removal of plumbing for outdoor showers, dune walkovers and signage temporarily. The project also calls for a trial run of a passenger shuttle providing guest transportation from a nearby elementary school to the beach. Phase II of the project (currently in planning) aims for long-term parking solutions.

UPDATE (June 15, 2019)

Information supplied by Christian Boschult from the North Strand News.

The North Myrtle Beach City Council passed sweeping parking changes that will go into effect June 15.

Changes include the beginning of paid parking, and streamlining enforcement of the new parking rules.

The paid parking program goes from June 15 through Oct. 31 this year. If there are no changes, the program will go from March 1 through Oct. 31 starting next year.

Starting June 15, Ocean Boulevard parking lots will cost $2 per hour from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The paid parking does not affect any parking lots that are not directly connected to the boulevard, such as the parking lot at 37th Avenue South and Seaview Street in Windy Hill, which is still just a block from the ocean.

There are a couple of options to pay: a parking app or a payment kiosk.

The Passport Parking app is available on Apple and Android phones. You can pay through the app, and pay for extra time if needed without going back to the vehicle. The kiosks will be installed in the parking lots, and only take credit or debit cards, so neither parking payment option will let you use cash.

If you have a handicap license plate, you can park for free at any public parking spot.

The city of North Myrtle Beach is working with Lanier Parking Solutions to enforce the new laws.

You'll want to make sure that you're not getting any tickets as a car has $75 or more in past-due citations, the parking management company will have the authority to immobilize the vehicle for up to 48 hours while the owner pays the fine. If the owner doesn’t pay, the city can impound the car at the owner’s expense.

Using The Map

This map has been designed to show you the different areas around the city that offer parking. The interactive map allows you to zoom in or out to find parking spots near the area in which you're traveling. Each "P" on the map represents a lot with parking spaces. You can click on the icon in the area in which you're interested to get more information on that specific parking lot. The map also has the option to open it in Google Maps which will allow you to input your vacation rental address so that you can get exact directions to the parking lot.

Making The Most Of The Interactive Map

Using the zoom features will allow you to find attractions, restaurants, and beach access points near each of the listed parking areas. Once you click on the desired "P" icon, you can read information on the lot that will tell you how many spaces are there. The icon will also tell you about handicapped parking availability and if the lot has parking spaces for golf carts. Some parking lots that are found near public beach access areas will also have showers and restrooms.

Beach Access Parking Lots

If your vacation rental isn't beachfront or within walking distance of the ocean, you'll want to have information on the closest parking for beach access. The parking areas are broken up into sections based on the following beach areas: Cherry Grove, Ocean Drive, Crescent Beach, and Windy Hill.

You can use the map to find the one nearest your vacation rental so you always have convenient access to the beautiful beaches in North Myrtle Beach. The map will tell you which parking lots have handicapped friendly ramps for easy beach accessibility.

If you're unfamiliar with the area, it may seem overwhelming to find North Myrtle Beach parking. This user-friendly parking guide has been designed to help visitors find parking near beach access, activities, and other places of interest. We understand that many condo rentals may require some driving to get to your desired destinations.
