The Lexington Herald-Leader recently reported that Allegiant Air will be adding two non-stop flights a week from Lexington KY to Myrtle Beach SC beginning May 29, 2014. This is a really big deal for people that live in the Lexington area because Allegiant Air offers low cost flights, thus opening up the possibility of a shore vacation to families that otherwise would not be able to afford one.
The flights that Allegiant is adding are from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport to Myrtle Beach beginning May 30 and to St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport beginning May 15.
Allegiant said it offered promotional fares as low as $54, one way, for flights from Blue Grass Airport to Myrtle Beach International Airport, on tickets that were purchased by March 11 for travel by Aug. 12, when the flights end for the year. On any of their promotional low-cost deals, seats are limited and other fees might apply, such as additional fees for luggage, etc.
Allegiant Air offers low-cost fares that average less than $100 one way. In addition to the new flights being added there are flights from Columbus Ohio and Syracuse NY non-stop into Myrtle Beach International Airport as well.
They also fly from Lexington KY to several Florida airports including Tampa/St. Petersburg/Clearwater, Orlando/Daytona Beach/Sanford, Fort Lauderdale, and Fort Myers/Naples/Marco Island/Punta Gorda.

If on a future visit to North Myrtle Beach you get the feeling that something has changed — the roads seem wider, the view more spacious — you won’t be imagining things. There are $6.5 million dollars worth of long awaited improvements in the works for Ocean Boulevard in North Myrtle Beach.
The area first affected will be the widening of Ocean Boulevard from 15th Avenue South to 28th Avenue South. This project will benefit not just the businesses along Ocean Boulevard but also their suppliers as well. Traffic won’t get backed up due to trucks being double parked to make their deliveries to businesses along this stretch of road. When it comes to your tax dollars, rest assured they’re not being increased to pay for this. The South Carolina Department of Transportation will pay for this project at a cost of $3.5 million dollars.
The City of North Myrtle Beach and Santee Cooper are orchestrating and paying for a second project, also along Ocean Boulevard, to move all overhead utilities to underground. Pat Dowling, the spokesperson for the City of North Myrtle Beach said it is a way to help prevent residents and business owners from losing power during a natural disaster like a hurricane. The city and Santee Cooper will share the $3 million dollar cost of this project.
The underground conversion project is scheduled to begin in fall or winter of 2014. The road widening project in the same area won’t begin until 2015.

Many people that have come to stay in our North Myrtle Beach vacation rentals in the past have commented on how clean the North Myrtle Beach area is. We’re proud of our town and beach and wouldn’t be able to keep it this way without the help of the many citizens that cared so much about the town they live in that a program was formed to educate and empower the community.
Keep North Myrtle Beach Beautiful (KNMBB) is a community based program that enables members of the community to improve the environment, enhance the quality of life and experience pride in their community through beautification, litter prevention, and recycling. The KNMBB committee and commission are funded by the City of North Myrtle Beach through the Parks and Recreation Department. All of the members are volunteers.
The program has received many awards throughout the recent years. Their Committee meetings are open to the public and are held the second Tuesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. at the J. Bryan Floyd Community Center. If you have questions or would like to attend the monthly meeting you can call (843) 280-5673.
At Grand Strand Resorts we’re proud that our North Myrtle Beach vacation rentals are located in a community where the residents and businesses care about how their community looks. The city of North Myrtle Beach has developed a zero tolerance when it comes to litter. Their goal is to clean up the community, and they will not tolerate anyone littering. They’ve set up a litter hotline at (843) 280-5511 and encourage visitors and residents alike to call it if they see anyone littering. It’s only my methods such as this that they can education the public on the damage created to the environment when people litter.
For anyone planning a late winter vacation to the Grand Strand area you may already be contemplating what there is to do here at that time of the year. Well, the good news is that with our weather being so mild the two biggest reasons to come to the area will always be the beach and the year round golfing opportunities.
