The Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) is a 3,000-mile long stretch of waterway that spans the length of the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts. It begins in Massachusetts and continues down all the way to the southern tip of Florida, where it wraps around to the Gulf Coast, ending in Brownsville, Texas.

This network of waterways comprises natural and man-made waters, including inlets, rivers, bays, sounds, and canals. It was created to provide a safe route for boats, allowing them to avoid the risks of traveling on the dangerous waters of the open Atlantic Ocean.

In addition to providing safe passage for ships and other water vessels, the creation of the Intracoastal Waterway resulted in a coastal water trail of stunning scenic landscapes. This, and the abundant wildlife that inhabit the ICW, make it a haven for conservationists and nature enthusiasts.
