The origin of St. Patrick’s Day dates back to the 5th century when St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, is said to have used the shamrock’s three leaves to explain the Holy Trinity to Irish pagans, winning them over to Christianity.

Today, Irish Catholics celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on March 17th in his honor, and the tradition has spread to countries around the world.
